AIRPORT LIGHTING

The ongoing focus of the below airport lighting projects is to increase overall surface movement safety at airports. The prevention of runway incursions has been identified as one of the most difficult challenges related to surface movement safety. The Surface Technology Assessment Product Team within the FAA is actively seeking new technological applications to improve pilot situational awareness on the airport surface. The FAA has developed goals and objectives to guide the overall agency strategy to reduce the severity and frequency of runway incursions in the National Airspace System (NAS). The development, testing and demonstration of new and different airport lighting applications have and will continue to constitute a key component within this overall strategy.
