ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking a ASR-9/ASR-8 Radar Technician to join our Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR-9) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

The ASR-9 is a radar system used by the FAA to monitor air traffic and weather conditions in the United States. The ASR-9 is a primary surveillance radar that provides air traffic controllers with information on aircraft position and weather.

We are looking for an experienced individual to work independently and in a team environment. This individual:

  • Interprets and analyzes complex information systems data to develop technical documentation, system diagrams, and presentation materials. Coordinates and performs information systems hardware and software testing efforts, produces test and remediation plans and reports, and handles implementation of computer hardware and software for operational systems.
  • Experienced in the most current electronic and electrical engineering principles and practices. The specialist engineering experience shall be in a NAS related discipline such as command and control, communications, workstation, radar, maintenance, and computer automation fields.
  • The specialist also provides expertise in the techniques and tools such as computer-aided engineering, spreadsheets, word processor, graphics/presentation, and others used in engineering analysis and documentation.
  • The Technical Specialist shall have expertise in hardware/mechanical design and development, including expertise in use of related development tools. Designs, develops, tests, and integrates system hardware components, interfaces, and software/firmware packages to produce fully integrated systems.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Permanent Residency (with 3 years residing in the US) or US Citizenship is required for the FAA Public Trust/background investigation.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED required and ten (10) years of related experience including at least five (5) years of NAS experience. OR
    • An associate degree in a related field will be accepted in lieu of two (2) years of experience. OR
    • A bachelor’s degree in a related field will be accepted in lieu of four (4) years of experience.  
  • Candidate must have proven ASR-9 OR ASR-8 experience.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and determine operational issues and recommend solutions.
  • Design, develop, and test modern solutions to incorporate into existing systems and equipment.
  • Generate installation and test procedures for system modification and verification.
  • Perform all aspects of system verification, including all phases of the testing process.
  • Develop and execute test plan and procedures in an operational environment.
  • Direct and coordinate with outside vendors to manufacture prototypes and production units including development of Manufacturing Specifications.
  • Research new technologies that would be integrated in the ASR-9.
  • Providing 2nd Level Engineering support to ASR-9 modifications installed in the field to include onsite or over the phone.
  • Provide 2nd Level maintenance and engineering for data management as well as for operational subsystems of the ASR-9.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to work environments.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of ASR-9/ASR-8 radar principles, signal processing, and RF electronics.
  • Proficiency in ASR-9/ASR-8 radar system testing and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience with radar system simulation tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, 3D Printer, Altium).
  • Familiarity with radar system components, including transmitters, receivers, antennas, and signal processors.
  • Knowledge of radar system integration, installation, and field-testing procedures.

Daily Job Duties                                                 

  • Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of radar systems and associated components.
  • Conducting system upgrades, modifications, and calibration activities to improve performance and meet operational requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including maintenance procedures and system configurations.
  • Conducting feasibility studies and cost analyses for electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and determine operational issues and recommend solutions.
  • Conduct or participate in formal and informal reviews at predetermined points throughout the development life cycle.

Work Environment

  • Full-time position with a standard work schedule.
  • Travel throughout the country to different ASR-9 Radar sites to support local technicians in maintaining and modifying equipment. In this position, travel is not a priority however availability with a short notice to do so, is required. 75% of work will be on travel. 
  • Cubicle environment.
